Breast Pump Flange Fitting Support in the Scottish Borders
Breast Pump Flange Fitting Support in the Scottish Borders
New training update:
Breast pump flange fitting support now available
On Saturday night I joined an online workshop with Babies in Common all about flange fitting, breast pumps and bottles. It was genuinely so interesting and so practical. I have now completed their Pumping and Bottle feeding for Perinatal Professionals workshop, which means I can support you with breast pump flange fitting.
If you are pumping and it feels uncomfortable, painful, or you are not sure you are using the right size, this can make a big difference. A flange that does not fit well can leave you sore and stop your breasts are being drained effectively. That can show up as low output, even with a good pump.
And here is the bit that matters emotionally too: low pump output can make mums feel like they do not have enough milk. It can knock confidence fast. Some mums then start doubting their bodies and assume their supply is the problem, and they make changes like adding more formula before they have had proper support to check the basics. Sometimes supply is genuinely an issue, but very often there are practical things we can rule in or rule out first, like flange fit, pump settings, and pumping technique. Having this looked at by someone qualified can bring so much clarity and reassurance.
What is flange fitting and why does it matter
Your flange is the funnel shaped part that sits over your nipple during pumping. If the fit is not right, pumping can feel sore, uncomfortable, or painful. It can also mean your breasts are not being drained as well as they could be, which can impact output. A better fit can help with:
More comfort while pumping
More effective milk removal and breast drainage, meaning less time to pump.
Less rubbing and swelling
Better output for some mums
A smoother pumping routine overall
